2008 AJ Cohen Scholarship Recipient - Peter Hoffman2008 Recipient - Peter Hoffman
The A.J. Cohen Scholarship fund was formed within weeks of A.J.'s death. The immediate response from the Cincinnati community was simply amazing. To initiate a full scholarship in A.J.'s name at his alma mater, Summit Country Day, we needed to raise $250,000. Andy Poli, former baseball coach decided to establish a high school baseball tournament in A.J.'s name, to help expedite the donations. The results proved to be successful as we have raised nearly $100,000 to date. Although it may seem lofty, our goal is to reach the $250,000 mark in 2011. When we reach $250,000, the partial scholarship will be upgraded to a full scholarship in A.J.'s name. At the present time, incoming freshman Peter Hoffman from St. Margaret of York has been chosen to receive a partial scholarship in A.J.'s name.
When we reach that $250,000 mark, we will meet with the Summit Country Day School to establish a specific guideline for who will be the recipient of A.J.'s scholarship. Our goal is to find a student who matches and shares the same spirit A.J. possessed. A person who puts other people ahead of him or herself. Someone who is active in the community as A.J. was. Someone who's goal at the end of the day, was to put a smile on your face. As we get closer to reaching our goal, we will keep you updated on the money raised and where the scholarship stands. For those who have donated money in the last six years, we can't even begin to thank you enough. It is our goal, that we can continue to spread A.J.'s spirit through another young man or woman, who will walk the same halls as our good friend A.J. did while at Summit Country Day.
Respectfully,
Jonathan Lippert
